It was established in 1989 and became a registered charity in 1991. KCTT established the Training and Counseling Resource Centre in 1994 in Lusaka's Thorn-Park area. The Centre is accredited under the Technical Education Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) and is a partner training institution of the Regional AIDS Training Network (RATN) which is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Training Facilities
The Training and Counseling Resource Centre facilities are available for hire by external organizations.
The Centre has space to cater for seminars, conferences, workshops etc. The building has one large conference room which can also be divided into three classrooms. Each classroom can accommodate 20-25 people.

In addition, a small boardroom is available that can accommodate 15-20 people. Office facilities include telephones, internet, photocopying and audio-visual equipment.
The Centre has a cafeteria which can cater for Zambian and International cuisine and can accommodate up to 40 people, and has a secure car parking area on site.
Accomodation Facilities
The Centre has a hostel on site that can accommodate up to 16 guests. Lodging is available to cater for individuals undertaking training at the Centre, as well as external guests. The center has enough space and fully equipped conference and training facilities to carter for groups of various sizes: a large conference room with a sitting capacity of 150 people fully furnished with training equipment. Kara invites outside organizations to use its facilities for conferences, meetings and workshops/seminars based at the training centre in Thornpark.
Specialized Counselling Services
The Training and Counseling Resource Centre operates specialized counseling services for Zambians and non-Zambians alike.
An international team of professional counselors are available to help clients deal with a range of issues including stress, depression, anxiety, fear, concerns about health, marriage and/or relationships, sexual issues, and drug and alcohol abuse.
