Kara Counselling and Training Trust was founded in 1989 by Fr. Michael Kelly SJ, but its legal entity received registration in 1991. KCTT’s vision is to work towards ‘A society free of suffering where all people take charge of and live long and productive lives in freedom and equality, with Zambia taking its place proudly among the great nations of the world.’

Behind this vision, is the mission ‘to promote integrated Human development by providing counseling, training, caring and other related services which respond to the current psychosocial needs in Zambia. It pioneered in the field of Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) in Zambia and for more than ten years of operation it expanded not only running VCT centers within Lusaka but outside as well and do provide other activities to date:

a)

General Counselling and Voluntary Testing in more than five centers in Lusaka – Hope House along Luanshya Road, Chawama Center, Helen Kauda Center, Mtendere Centre, Kamwala Centre, Matero Centre and Kara Choma.

   

b)

Training programmes for counselors, community home-based caregivers, counselling skills, outreach education and other tailor made courses at KCTT’s Training, Counselling and Resource Centre in Thornpark.

   

c)

Outreach HIV/AIDS education programme.

   

d)

Jon Hospice for terminally ill patients.

   

e)

A residential life skills training programme for orphaned teenage youths from disadvantaged settings at Umoyo Training Centre.

   

f)

Integrated services of all interventions in Lusaka are operational in Kara Choma and Kara Kabwe respectively.

   

g)

A CD4 Laboratory to respond to clients need regarding testing at a very reasonable price.

   

h)

Monitor, Evaluation and Research Unit (MERU) – to carry out monitoring, evaluation and research activities.
